Hopping Down the Bunny Trail

Yet again, I had Easter decor from years past that just didn't cut it this year. These little bunnies came home with me a few years ago from Micheal's.

I thought they needed some paint and aging, so I went to work with my craft paints again. I used the JoAnn's brand craft paint (only 59 cents!) in ivory and coated the green lettuce leaves using a foam craft brush. I didn't touch the bunnies at this stage. (Sorry, I forgot to take a pic once everything was white.)

Next up I tried something that I wasn't sure would work. I love walnut ink. I used this stuff like crazy when I was into scrapbooking and paper crafting. It's perfect for aging paper. But is it perfect for aging bunnies and lettuce leaves?

I sprayed it on....

Gently wiped the excess off...

And then used a foam brush to achieve the look I wanted...

 I think it worked!
What do y'all think?

Please meet Mr. Bunny:

 And the lovely Mrs. Bunny:

Some of the green still shows through here and there, and I'm OK with that. They are now on the island in the kitchen, helping to usher in spring and Easter.

What are your favorite paints to use when re-purposing items and/or aging them? So far I've only used craft paints. And I am incredibly happy to learn that I can use my beloved walnut ink on things other than paper! I hope to jump on the spray paint bandwagon as soon as it is warm and dry enough here to get outside.

This post is part of "Thrifty Treasures" at Southern Hospitality., "Make it for Monday" at Cottage Instincts, and "Make Your Monday" at Twice Remembered.

(I hope Rhoda doesn't mind that my bunnies didn't actually come from a thrift store. I just don't have a good thrift store near me! But these bunnies were thrifted from my stash...hopefully that will count!)

I really like the way those turned out! I spray painted outside in Iowa yesterday and it was fine (35ish degrees.) I use a glaze from Lowes when antiquing furniture, but I've never used anything else.

Oh, much better after you worked on them with the craft paint! So far, I've only used spray paint to change the color of my finds, but I'd like to play around with aging stuff too. :) I'm visiting from Rhoda's Thrifty Treasures party. Hope you'll stop by. :)

Oh, fabulous! They're so cute and look great next to that candle. Like Amanda, I've only used spray paint. It's so fun and easy. I haven't tried anything else yet, but you're making me think I should venture outside of my comfort zone. I also need some Easter decor!

Hi! I just found you on another blog and I'm glad I did. :) Those rabbits look terrific in their new color. Funny~~ I spray paint all the time, but I have never heard of walnut ink. I'll have to look for that. Looks like something I could use for my business. You should really try spray paint. I even spray faux flowers...did so this morning with a quick run out the door and quick run back in.

Nice to meet you!

I love it! I'm so glad you linked up. I'm pretty new to the whole "inking" thing so any idea is new to me. Yours turned out great!
