Easter Tablescape

I got started on my tablescape for Easter, but am sort of at a standstill. I need your opinions! Let me know what you think so far...

My inspiration came from Pottery Barn.

I made a no-sew table runner out of burlap and love it. I made it wider than the standard runner. I just cut it, threw it in the washer and dryer and then trimmed what needed to be trimmed. (And I did iron it before putting it on the table...obviously, I need to do a better job!)

I found the ceramic duck at the Pottery Barn outlet. I wasn't sure about it, but then decided I like the departure from the traditional bunnies. The small glass vase came from The Christmas Tree Shops (clearance for $4.99!) and the tall one came from the Pottery Barn Outlet. I filled them with Spanish Moss, some twine covered eggs, and white wooden eggs.

I covered some hardback books to mimic the ones in the PB tablescape in order to gain some height for one of the vases.

I covered the book with modge podge and then added the scrapbook paper. I had to cover the front, then the back, and then the spine.

I then sanded away the extra paper from the edges.

I then used my walnut ink on the edges to "age" it even more. I finished up by tying the 2 books together with satin ribbon.

Now, here is where I am having the most difficulty...the place settings. I was really hoping to find some new Easter/Spring plates, but haven't had any luck. So I added green cloth napkins between the plate and salad plate to add some color. I found the metal buckets on clearance at Michael's for .50 cents and the faux grass was 50% off, so they were only $1.50 each. I need 4 more of these settings, so I am hoping my 2nd Michael's will have more.

I stopped there. I still need stemware and flatware. (I want to buy new flatware but haven't found what I love yet...any suggestions?)

Also, my biggest goal for Easter dinner:
PAINTING THIS TABLE!
I want to leave the top of the table and the seats of the chairs the stain they are while painting the rest of the table as well as the legs and backs of the chairs Benjamin Moore's Bone White. I am very, very nervous about this, but HAVE to do it. Have to. I am accepting any and all suggestions about painting furniture!

I think I need to add more...more what though?
Daffodils? In metal buckets? Or would that be too much metal?

I am now open for critiques, criticisms, etc...

This post is part of "Show Us What You're Workin' With" at Me and My Bucket and 'Tablescape Thursday" at Between Naps on the Porch.

I like your table setting. I would maybe add a bit more color! (maybe) Your table looks a lot like mine and I so want to paint mine as well. I have to, but nervous. If you figure out how let me know please. I figured I'd sand it and just go for it. I've seen another table in blogland painted, but for the life of me I can't remember where. Which upsets me... good luck with the table.

I just peeked around your blog a little and found out that you're a PA mom, too! I'm also a transplant trying to find my way (although from CT, not the South. :) I think you have some fantastic ideas - I'm a new follower!

I like what you've got going so far! Hmmm ... how about maybe another runner going across the table, so all 4 place settings are on top of the burlap?? I like the metal buckets with the grass and I also like the daffodils ... you could possibly paint the buckets for the daffodils in an antique white and do a distressed look?? Or use some little wooden crates from the craft store and paint them and stuff 'em with the flowers. Those are just some of my ideas, no matter what you do, I LOVE it all!!

Thanks for joining my party and for being the first!! :)

Jessi, I love what you did to the books. For the table setting I would just add some more color. Maybe tie yellow or pink ribbon around each bucket and get coordinating napkins. I love the duck and I love Pottery Barn outlet. Maybe throw a few tiny colored eggs in with the brown and white ones. You could just use the candy one. Cheap. As far as painting the table. It isn't hard. Just sand off the shiny top coat. Prime it. May take two coats. Then usually two coats of paint. Lightly sand between the coats of paint to get a smooth finish. Then use a polyurethane topcoat to keep the finish from scratching off. Check out Miss Mustard Seed's blog. She gives tutorials on refinishing furniture. Good luck.

This is really really cute! I love the books! I'll have to make some shortly. You should link this to Tablescape Thursday Link Party at http://www.betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com tomorrow. She has hundreds of people participate and it would give you another chance to show off your tablescape!

Hi Jessi, way to go!!!

I love it all. I got some birdie flatware at Overstock.com this Spring. I've seen lots of cute flatware at Ross/Marshall's..even Wal-mart. I've been dreaming of Easter too and playing in the dishes. I wouldn't worry about dishes...I love what you have.

You did an awesome job with those books and pretty scrapbook paper.

Come join in my give-away.

I love your dining area, it all looks really pretty together. The table scape is great, you did a really nice job...simple and neat...love the burlap runner. I'm gonna have to run out to Michael's and see if I can find some of those great little buckets. I'm a very sad person, I have zero easter decorations. I do like the duck also, it is a nice departure from the traditional. tAke Care, Carrie

Great advice from the other ladies. Your table is well on it's way. I always wonder how they get the PB tables so overfilled looking. Thats what I always work on. When painting the table and chairs, try not to worry the drips too much. I recently painted my talbe and chairs black. No one has noticed the drips-except me!

You did a good job of recreating PB look! I would add daffodils but not sure about the metal buckets because of your place setting -- perhaps in clear vases (like your hurricanes)? But the table looks really good -- love the duck!
